Dobson Strength · Bend, Oregon

Performance Physical Therapy for Lifters.

For the athlete who refuses to stop training

Your back hurts on deadlifts. Your shoulder flares up on bench. Your knee doesn't feel right in the hole. You've been told to rest, to stop, to modify forever. We're going to fix the problem — and then make you stronger than you were before it started.

No More "Just Stop Lifting"

We keep you training through your recovery — with the right load, the right movements, and a plan that actually makes sense.

Strength-Focused From Session One

Treatment and programming in the same plan. Your PT understands barbells, not just anatomy charts.

Back to PRs, Not Just Pain-Free

The goal isn't just to survive training. It's to build a body that handles what you ask of it — and then some.

Common Issues We See

Injuries We Treat

If it's happening under the bar, on the platform, or in the gym, we've seen it — and we know how to fix it without pulling you off the floor.

🏋️ Deadlift · Squat

Low Back Pain

The most common complaint we see. Herniated discs, SI joint irritation, muscle strains — we find the root cause and rebuild your posterior chain so it holds up under load.

💪 Bench · Overhead Press

Shoulder Pain

Rotator cuff issues, impingement, labrum irritation. We address mobility deficits and rebuild the stability your pressing movements depend on.

🦵 Squat · Lunge · RDL

Knee Pain

Patellar tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, meniscus irritation. We reload the knee systematically so you can get back to depth without bracing through every rep.

⚙️ Squat · Hip Hinge

Hip Pain & Mobility

Hip impingement, labral tears, hip flexor issues. Fix the mobility and stability patterns that are limiting your squat depth and pulling mechanics.

🖐️ Pressing · Pulling

Elbow & Wrist

Golfer's elbow, tennis elbow, wrist pain from pressing. Often a load management and mechanics issue — fixable without months off the bar.

🔁 Any Movement Pattern

Chronic & Recurring Issues

The injury that keeps coming back every time you push. Usually a capacity problem, not a structural one. We build the foundation so it stops repeating.

The Difference

A PT Who Thinks Like a Strength Coach.

Most PTs will watch you move and tell you what's wrong. That's where it ends. At Dobson Strength, the assessment is just the beginning — we build a program around what you're actually trying to do in the gym.

Technique work, progressive overload, load management — all of it is built into your care from the start. You're not just rehabbing. You're training smarter.

Why It's Different

Traditional PT vs. Dobson Strength

We built this practice specifically because standard PT wasn't cutting it for athletes who actually want to train.

Traditional PT

12-visit insurance cap — then you're on your own

Generic exercises that have nothing to do with your training

"Stop lifting heavy" — indefinitely

30-minute sessions split between 3 other patients

Treatment ends when pain resolves — not when you're strong

No support or programming between appointments

Dobson Strength

Cash-pay — no visit limits, no insurance gatekeeping

Programming built around your actual lifts and goals

You keep training — with the right modifications and progressions

60-minute 1-on-1 sessions, every time

Continues until you're stronger than before the injury

App-based coaching, messaging, and tracking between sessions

Our Process

Blueprint. Build. Reinforce. Expand.

Every client moves through the same four phases. The timeline depends on where you're starting. The framework doesn't change.

📐
Phase 1

Blueprint

Deep 1:1 assessment — in-person or virtual. We find the root cause, not just the painful spot. You leave with a diagnosis, a prognosis, and a clear game plan.

🔨
Phase 2

Build

Hands-on treatment plus custom programming built around your lifts. The right movements, the right load, progressed in the right order.

💬
Phase 3

Reinforce

App-based coaching, messaging, and accountability between sessions. Your program evolves as your capacity does — no stale PDFs.

🏗️
Phase 4

Expand

Education, performance, and independence. You understand your body, trust your training, and have the tools to keep building long after we're done.

Within a couple weeks I was able to sleep on that shoulder and lift without pain. I would highly recommend working with Steven — especially if you've ever been told you'd have to give up lifting for your injury to heal.

I came to him weeks before a powerlifting meet with shoulder trouble and nerve pain down my leg. He helped me navigate through it so I could still compete — with less pain. As an athlete himself, he understands the challenges and deadlines of competition.

Questions

Straight Answers for Lifters.

The stuff people always ask before the consult call.

Will I have to stop training during rehab? +
Almost never. The goal is to keep you moving the entire time — with the right modifications. Rest alone doesn't build resilience. We find what you can do, load it appropriately, and progress from there. Most clients are surprised by how much they can still train during recovery.
I have a competition coming up. Can you work with that timeline? +
Yes — and we take that seriously. Competition deadlines shape the plan. We've helped athletes get through meets, games, and events while managing active injuries. We'll tell you honestly what's realistic and what the tradeoffs are, then build around your timeline.
I've had this injury before and it keeps coming back. Can you actually fix that? +
Recurring injuries are almost always a capacity problem — your body wasn't strong or stable enough to handle what you were asking of it, so it breaks down again when you reload. We address the root cause, build the missing capacity, and give you the tools to manage load going forward. This is exactly the kind of problem we're built to solve.
Do you take insurance? +
No — Dobson Strength is a cash-pay practice. That means no visit caps, no prior authorizations, and no insurance company deciding how many sessions you need. You pay directly for the care you actually need. HSA and FSA funds can typically be used — confirm with your plan administrator.
What if I'm not local to Bend? +
Remote clients are welcome. Fully virtual Hybrid PT covers your assessment, programming, and ongoing coaching through video check-ins and the Dobson Strength app. Some injuries genuinely need hands-on work — we'll be upfront if that's the case. If you're in the area, in-person sessions are available at our Bend facility.
How is this different from just hiring a personal trainer? +
A personal trainer programs your training. A physical therapist diagnoses and treats injury. Dobson Strength does both — which means your rehab IS your training, and your training is informed by clinical assessment. You're not splitting your attention between two professionals who don't talk to each other. It's one plan, one practitioner, no gaps.
